Richard DeVer Roux
LARUE — Richard DeVer Roux, 83, of near LaRue, died Saturday, Aug. 21, 1999, at Marion General Hospital following a long period of failing health, which had recently worsened.
He was born on Feb. 3,1916, to Harold S. Roux and Lois Susan Caroline Dickason near DeCliff and was married on Nov. 24, 1945, to Ercella W. Black who survives.
He was a lifelong resident of Montgomery Township in Marion County. Following graduation from LaRue High School in 1933, he worked at Marion Power Shovel. During World War II, he served as first lieutenant in the 394th Bomb Squadron of the Army Air Force and was actively involved in the Pacific Theatre of Operation. Following his honorable discharge at the end of the war, he was employed by Short Ford, which became Kennedy Ford and is now known as Mathews Kennedy Ford. He was mechanic, service manager and body shop manager during those years. Later in his field, he began his own business known at Roux Ford in Mount Victory. During all of those years he was a part-time farmer and maintained his interest in that pursuit until his death.
He was a past member of Marion Kiwanis and has been a continuous 54-year member of Post 101 of the American Legion of LaRue.
In addition to his wife, Ercella, he is also survived by a son, Richard S. Roux and wife, Jean of Melrose, Fla., and grandsons, Kyle and Kraig. His stepgrand-son, Kevin Steele and wife, Linda, live in Galion, and his stepgranddaughter, Mrs. Nathan (Teresa) Swartz lives near Rich-wood. He is survived by sisters, Mrs. Donald (Virginia) Greenwood and June Appelfeller of near LaRue and Mrs. Eloise "Dit" Lust of Marion. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Ray da Jones and Jane Appelfeller, In addition, he is survived by many loving nieces and nephews and a host of good friends. Calling hours will not be -observed. A graveside service will be conducted by the American Legion of LaRue and the Rev. Dan Kiger 10 a.m. Thursday at LaRue Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the LaRue High School Alumni Scholarship Fund through Stofcheck Funeral Home of LaRue who is handling arrangements.
