Roger Lincoln Landon
Roger Lincoln LandonR-Landon-HarleyRoger Lincoln Landon 80, of Kent, passed away peacefully on October 19, 2017.

He was born on July 25, 1937 in Prospect to the late Ray and Carol (Saum) Landon.

Roger worked his way through college on the railroad and graduated from Kent State University. He was a science/math teacher, guidance counselor, principal and coach at several school districts in Ohio. He served as the mayor of Burbank, OH and was a realtor for Century 21. After he retired from Bedford School District, he assisted with the Urban Forestry/Landscaping Program at Kent Roosevelt HS, doing what he loved most, teaching students how to work in the dirt and care for trees. Roger was passionate about music and loved to play his keyboard and trumpet for anyone who visited. He loved all sports, especially spending time watching tennis with his son, and was a dedicated OSU sports fan. Roger was in the Gold Wing club, winning several national awards for his motorcycle including 1st place Top Gun and Best in Show.

In addition to his parents, Roger is preceded in death by brother, George Landon, and a daughter Cathy Landon.

He is survived by his children, Christina (Richard) Hickman of Akron, Carol Lynn (Matthew) Ford of Akron, Joseph Landon of Columbus, James (Jamie) Landon of Columbus, and Patricia Powers of Columbus; sisters, Rebecca (William) Maggs of Mt. Gilead, Margaret Miley of Marion, and Doris Cornett of Richwood; grandchildren, Casey, Jasmine, Shane, Robert, Tommy, Katie, Alex, and Drew.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, October 25, 2017 from 3:00 to 6:30 pm at the Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron. Funeral service to follow at 6:30pm.

Local services for Roger will be held Friday October 27, 2017 at 2:00 pm at the Prospect United Methodist Church, where friends may call one hour prior to the service, Pastor Carolyn Christman will officiate, burial will follow in the Prospect Cemetery. The Stofcheck-Ballinger Funeral Home in Prospect is assisting the family.

The family would like to thank Crossroads Hospice and nurse Rochelle for his care.
