Ross Ward Moore
Ross Ward MooreGardeningRoss Ward Moore, 58 of Richwood, died unexpectedly Saturday, December 23, 2022 at Memorial Hospital in Marysville.

He was born March 12, 1964 in Delaware, the son of Dr. Lloyd E. and Mary Elaine (Montgomery) Moore.

A 1982 graduate of North Union High School, he studied horticulture at Tri-Rivers, which launched a life-long passion for growing plants and collecting seeds. He worked at Leo Burbee Bulbs for several years. Ross was well-known for his skills with caring for plants, growing from seeds and grafting. He later began raising chickens, donating dozens of eggs at a time to charity.

He was a great storyteller. His animated and comical way of telling stories would always capture the attention of the room; he loved to make people laugh. Ross also had a very generous and serious side. He was a good listener and had good intuition for what was troubling someone. Ross will be missed by many, many friends.

He is survived by his mother, Elaine Benedict, Richwood; an aunt, Leah Reeder, North Carolina; and cousins Gwen and Gail. He was preceded in death by his father and his two sisters, Jan Lower and Leticia Moore.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. Stofcheck-Ballinger Funeral Home in Richwood is assisting the family. Memorial gifts may be made to the funeral home to help the family with unexpected expenses.

Ross, How do I say goodbye to my best friend? I will miss our lengthy conversations, your good cooking, your contagious laughter, sitting with the chickens & our Amish country trips. Thank you my friend for imparting your plant, seed & chicken knowledge. It's a journey that's been cut way too short. Elaine, thanks for sharing him with the rest of us. You too are a treasure & my heart aches for you as well. You are in my thoughts & prayers. May love & comfort surround you. Dawn

Oh it hurts to receive this news! Ross was one of those friends who would ALWAYS cheer you up, bring a smile, brighten the day. I have so many fond memories that I cherish and hold dear, my friend. The Prank Wars, early weekends at the farmers market, pulling cactus spires from my daughter and your hilarious reactions…far  too many to mention. Ross, I can hardly bear to imagine you are gone. I can hear your laughter. Many prayers, Elaine- the girls and I send our love.

Elaine I am so sorry for your loss. I went to school with Ross and enjoyed being his friend. I remember that he loved dachshund dogs, I made him a pillow with a picture of a dachshund and his initial's on it. He was my very first crush in middle school. May he rest in peace.

So sorry for your loss. Ross was one of those people that leaves lasting memories for many. His infectious smile and his wicked sharp edged sense of humor truly set him apart from others. Even when he was grouchy you just had to laugh at his over the top way of expressing himself. He will be truly missed by many.

I am so saddened by the sudden devastating news. I remember such fun in the 80s going out in the Columbus night life. We had the love of plants and animals in common. We started communicating again when I had an apartment in Tijuana Mexico in 2016. It was so much fun reminiscing. We continued sending messages every few weeks to months up until December. He will be missed. Rest in Peace my friend. My deepest condolences to his family.
