Paul E. Phipps, 61, of Mt. Victory, formerly of the
Somersville area, died peacefully Wednesday, March 28, 2007, at Heartland of Marion, following a long battle with kidney dialysis. He married the former Angela Davis, and together they ran Paul's Pizza in Somersville for many years. He was one of the first people in the area to have a snowmo- bile and later started selling them, getting the trend started in the area for much winter fun. Along with his wife, he was an avid snowmobile drag racing fan. The two also did their share of winning. One of Mr. Phipps' passions was girls Softball. He coached girls summer league Softball in the North Union League for 15 years and was president for three years. During this time he was instrumental in helping build the new concession stand, new dugouts and installing lights for night time play. Also a second diamond was realized. All these things were done so more girls could utilize the fields and play Softball in the summer. After stepping down from coaching, he started working with woodcrafts and along with his wife did craft shows every fall until his health would not allow. He served York Township as clerk for four years. He was a man of many talents, enjoying trap shooting and just being around his family and friends He was born Jan. 7, 1946, to the late Albert and Helen Miller Phipps. Surviving are his loving wife of 30 years, Angela Davis Phipps of Mt. Victory; daughters, Lisa (John) McGuire of Grove City, and Stephanie Massie of Marysville; grandchildren, Robby Barclay of Grove City, and Raven Wendling of Marysville; his mother-in-law, Virginia Davis of Richwood; brothers- and sis- ters-in-law, Randall (Diana) Davis, Steve Davis, Bruce (Mar- sha) Davis and Keith (Linda) Davis, all of the Richwood area and all their children; loving aunt, Helen Phipps of near York Center; dearest friend who would help out anytime day or night, Steve Goodwin of York Center; and many friends and relatives.
