Louis E. "Louie" Tanner, 81, of Richwood, died late Sunday, Jan. 22,
2006, at his home after almost a year-long battle with cancer. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II and a lifetime member of the Richwood American Legion Baccarat Post No. 40 and a member of the VFW Post No. 870, Richwood. A retired trucker, he worked with Gateway Trucking of Marion. He enjoyed working on lawn mowers, gardening, fishing and playing poker. He was born Jan. 2, 1925, in Richwood, to the late LeRoy E. and Eva Potts Tanner. He also was preceded in death by two brothers, Harvey and Clifford Tanner; and a sister, Helen L. May. He is survived by his first wife, Frances Dilsaver Tanner of Richwood, whom he married in 1947; his current wife of 30 years, Mary Collins Tanner, whom he married May 15, 1975; children, Beverly (Gordon) Brown and Becky (Ed) Penix of Richwood, Donald of Bucyrus, Pam (Denny) Mathys of Raymond, Rodney of Marion, and Rodger of Sandusky; a step-daughter, Theresa Soice of Jacksonville, Fla.; 20 grandchildren; 18 step-grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and a brother, Richard (Ray) Turner of Jacksonville, Fla. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Stofcheck Funeral Home, Richwood, where funeral services will be held Thursday at 1 p.m., with the Rev. Tim Peria officiating. Burial will be in Claibourne Cemetery, where there will be veteran graveside services conducted by the Richwood VFW and American Legion. Pallbearers will be Chad LeMasters, Terry LeMasters, Eddie Ray Penix, Shane Penix, Scott Reebel, Kaliff Tanner, Shawn Hill and Bryan Frasier.
