Evelyn Marie Price, 81, of Richwood, died Sunday afternoon, June 4,
2006, at her home surrounded by her loving family. Of great Christian faith, she never wavered in her assurance that the Lord was taking care of her in spite of her adversities. She read and wore out two Bibles and was studying a third. During the last few years, Marion Christian Center was her home church. Her church family was faithful to pray for and with her. She spent 22 years of dedicated service to North Union Schools, teaching first and second grade pupils. She was passionate about teaching every pupil who went through her class to read. A very dear teaching friend once said about her, "Evelyn could teach a dog to read; she just never gives up on any child." Her favorite quote was, "Any child can be taught to read with plenty of patience and perseverance." For several years after retirement, she returned to tutor kindergarten students in reading. She enjoyed camping and traveling with her family and was often designated the camp cook and always brought along "the money bag" to ensure all expenses were taken care of. Although she will be greatly missed, her legacy of love and Christian faith will live on forever in the lives she has touched. She was born April 9, 1925, to the late Bashford and Mabel Drake Porter of Green Camp. She also was predeceased by her beloved brother, Ervin Porter, and a grandchild, Flint Mathys. She married Lowell L. Price on Aug. 12, 1950, and they shared life for 56 years. In addition to her loving husband, other survivors include a sister, Esther (Robert) Boroff of Mansfield, and a sister-in-law, Donna Porter of Columbus. She was blessed with three children, Linda (Don) Mathys of West Mansfield, and Stan (Melanie) Price and Steve (Vicki) Price of Richwood; 12 grandchildren, Amber and Miriah Mathys, Kris (Anita) Price, Andrew (Allison) Price, Scott Price, Joselyn (Mark) Crosthwaite, Lindsey Price, Sarah, Nathan, Bethany, Alicia and Janae Price; three great-grandchildren, Kody, Kallie and Kole Price; many nieces and nephews; and special cousin of the family, Brent Willis of New Bloomington. She also shared her life with a dear friend, Anna Louise Dodge of Bradenton, Fla. Calling hours will be today from 5 to 8 p.m. at Stofcheck Funeral Home in Richwood, where funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m., with Pastors John Watson and Perry Payne officiating. Burial will be in Price Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Loving Care Hospice, 113 S. Main St. Marysville, Ohio 43040. | |||
