Magdalene Hedrick


Magdalene Hedrick, 83, of Somersville, died peacefully late Monday evening, Aug. 21, 2006, at her home.
She was a dedicated member of the Somersville Evangelical Friends Church, where she served as trustee from 1992 to 2000, and president of the Ladies Aid from 1991 to 2002.
She was a firm believer in "family" and was the strength and rock that held them together. She was an inspiration to all the lives she touched; not only was she a mother and "nanny," but she also was a dear friend.
A wonderful homemaker, her hobbies included sewing, reading, being outdoors, crocheting, find-a-word puzzles, taking rides and shopping for bargains.
She worked for a short time as a nurse's aide at Mercy Hospital in Columbus. She also had served as treasurer of the P.T.A. at Darby-dale Elementary and was room mother at the Harrisburg Elementary.
She was born a coal miner's daughter on July 20, 1923, in Well-ston, to the late Alfred Jr. and Nellie Summers Clark. On March 4, 1940, in Columbus, she married Basil Edward Hedrick Sr., and he died Sept. 25, 1998. She also was predeceased by two brothers, five sisters and one great-grandson.
Surviving are her devoted children, Jacqueline J. (Bob) Johnson of Somersville, Basil E. (Holly) Hedrick Jr. of Plain City, and Allen L. (Diane) Hedrick Sr. of London; a sister, Frances M. Mcintosh of Florida; eight grandchildren, James E. Walters, Tamara LeMaster, Mary Maynard, Brady Hedrick, Allen Hedrick Jr., Paul Hedrick, Nicole Lowery and Christian Hensley; 15 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Calling hours will be Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Stofcheck Funeral Home in Richwood. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Somersville Friends Church, with the Rev. George Freer officiating. Burial will be in York Cemetery,
