Clifford Allen Tanner


Clifford Allen Tanner, 93, of Richwood, died early Tuesday morning,
Sept. 20, 2005, at Heartland of Marysville, where he had been residing.
He was retired from Marion Power Shovel as a press operator after 39
years of employment. In previous years, he farmed with Jet Harris. He
enjoyed horseshoes, baseball, fishing, camping and woodworking. He will
be missed by his devoted family and friends.
He was born March 24, 1912, in Richwood, to the late Leroy E. and Eva
Potts Tanner. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Helen Hitt, in
1940, and by his second wife, Vera Pauline Erwin, in 1987. He also was
predeceased by a sister, Helen L. May, and a brother, Harvey Tanner.
Surviving are his children, Janice (Gordon) Smith of Ocala, Fla., and
Elma (Hal) Parish, Larry (Carol) Tanner and Nancy (Marvin) Shuster, all
of Richwood; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; two brothers,
Louis (Mary) Tanner of Richwood, and Richard Turner of Jacksonville,
Fla.
Calling hours will be Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Stofcheck Funeral
Home, Richwood, where funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m.,
with the Revs. Fred Cheney and Jerry Bentley officiating. Burial will be
in Claibourne Cemetery.
