Harold E. Hoffman


Harold E. Hoffman, 85, of near Essex, died.unexpectedly Friday afternoon, May 20, 2005, at Marion General.Hospital,
Mr. Hoffman was a retired farmer, a 1937 graduate of Richwood High School, a member of Essex United Methodist Church, 50-year member of the Essex K of P, member of the former Richwood Lions Club, former Richwood Fair Board member, former Jackson Township trustee, member of the Mt. Carmel Lodge No. 303 F&AM, member of the Ohio Cattleman's Association and a member of the Richwood, Prospect, Pleasant and Green Camp senior centers. His joys in life were his family, playing cards and harness racing.
He was born Oct. 23, 1919, at the home where he resided to the late Roy E. and Nellie Roberts Hoffman. He also was preceded in death by his wife, the former Barbara A. Anders, whom he married Feb. 27, 1943, in Columbus, and who died Feb. 20, 1993; two sisters. Elizabeth Sager and Pauline White; and a granddaughter, Sarah Ekerdt.
He is survived by his children, Carol (John) Ekerdt of Austin, Texas, Donna (Herman) Steele of Clayton, N.C., Kay (Jon) McAfee of Toledo, Mark (Lori) Hoffman of Prospect, and Eric (Pam) Hoffman of Richwood; 11 grandchildren; one great-grandson; a sister, Marguarite Miller of LaRue; and a special friend, Donna Flach of Essex.
Visiting hours will be today from 5 to 8 p.m. at Stofcheck Funeral Home, Richwood, and one hour prior to the funeral service, which will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Essex United Methodist Church. The Revs. David Hoffman and David Lippert will officiate. Masonic services will be held today at 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Price Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Larry Anderson, Mike Temple, Rick and Mike Hoffman, Bill Parish, Chad Hoffman and Bob Flach. Honorary pallbearers will be his grandsons, Nathan and Ryan McAfee, Steve Brant, Lance Hoffman and Tyler Kaufman.
