Jayne H. Covert of Columbus, died Thursday, March 31, 2003 at her home
in West Worthington. A graduate of Richwood High School and Ohio Northern University, she began her true passion in life, teaching young people. She taught in the Shadyside School District and Columbus Public Schools for nearly 30 years. Her final assignment was at Colerain Avenue Elementary, where she taught multi-handicapped children. In 1956 she was voted Favorite Teacher of the Year by the Columbus "Citizen Journal." She coached Columbus City League Baseball for Boys, where her team won the championship two years in a row. She was a former member of Richwood First United Methodist Church, and was a former Richwood Fair race secretary. She was active with the Children's Hospital Twig Organization. During World War II she served with the WAVES. She was born in Richwood to the late Nye and Marie Cameron Hamilton. She is survived by her husband, Paul D. Covert, whom she married July 28, 1951, in Angola, Ind. She also is survived by her children, Jill Carter of Worthington, and Bill (Sandy) Covert of Pocahantas, Ark.; grandchildren, Clancy (Christie) Covert, Collen Covert, Matt and Meredith Carter and Jauna Finley; and great-grandchildren Houston and Jackson. Funeral services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at Stofcheck Funeral Home, Richwood, where visiting hours will be Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m. and one hour prior to the funeral service. The Rev. Joseph Rhea will officiate and burial will be in Claibourne Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Lung Association. | |||
