Donald Lewis James, 81, of Prospect died Saturday, April 10, 2004, at
Community Healthcare Center. He graduated from New Bloomington High School in 1941, was a farmer and served on the New Bloomington Village Council and Volunteer Fire Department. He drove a school bus for the New Bloomington schools and a petroleum truck for Landmark. He moved to Prospect in 1969 and worked in maintenance at Marion General Hospital, retiring on disability in 1980. He served on the Prospect Village Council and was a member of the School Employees Retirement Organization, AARP, Prospect Senior Citizens and the Prospect United Methodist Church. He was born Feb. 1, 1923, in Marion County to the late Gerald and Ester Schlecht James and was predeceased by a daughter and two step-grandsons. He is survived by his wife, Velma Ward James; a twin sister, Donna (James) Denman of Marysville; a son, Robert (Eva) James of New Bloomington; granddaughters, Kimberly and Misty and Robyn (Steve) Herr of Marion; a great-grandson, Logan Herr; a stepdaughter, Joan (George) Norris of Prospect; a step-grandson, Nathan McGinniss of New Bloomington; step-granddaughters, Kellie (Larry) Price of LaRue and Sally (Dan) Gorby of Texas; step-great-grandchildren, Robert, Danielle and Maggie and Anna McKinniss of LaRue; a step-great-great-granddaughter; and a niece and two nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Prospect United Methodist Church. The Rev. David L. Hoffman will officiate and burial will be at the Prospect Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8:30 p.m. today at the Gehm-Ballinger Funeral Home in Prospect. Memorial contributions may be made to the Project Faith fund at the church, the Central Ohio Diabetes Association or the Arthritis Foundation in care of the funeral home. | |||
