Joseph P. Payne Sr.


Joseph P. Payne Sr., 68, of Richwood died Wednesday, Nov. 27,2002, at Heartland of Marysville after a short illness.
He retired in March 1999 as the owner and operator of Payne's Machine Shop in Marysville. He was a 1952 graduate of Richwood High School and a member of the Claibourne United Methodist Church. He enjoyed fishing and most of all enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
He was born April 6, 1934, in Union County to the late Paul H. and Edna June Smith Payne.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Lessig Payne to whom he was married Nov. 17,1952, at the home of the late Rev. Chester Meddles; two sons, Larry J. (Janet) Payne of Richwood and Joseph P. Payne of Lom-jbard, 111.; three grandchildren, Brandi Payne, Joseph P. Payne HI and Jessica Payne; a step-granddaughter, Janette D. Blevins; three brothers, Ora ;"Jack" (Mona) Payne and James E. (Doris) Payne of Richwood and Jerry L. (Virginia) Payne of Wildwood, Fla.; and a sister, Marlene (Jim) Reece of Richwood.
: Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Stofcheck Funeral Home in Richwood. The Rev. Danny Grose will officiate and burial will be at the Claibourne Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday.
