Melvin E. "Barney" Barry


Melvin E. "Barney" Barry, 85, of near Richwood died Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2002, at Marion General Hospital.
He was retired as manager of Hertz Rental Car in Marion after 30 years of service. He had formerly farmed, worked at the former Pure Oil and Standard Oil gas stations in Marion, been in the trucking business, hauling milk to Belle Center and sold machinery for the International Harvester Company. He enjoyed gardening and fishing.
He was born June 26, 1917, in Pottersburg to the late Jesse Melvin and Myrtle Thompson Barry and was predeceased by three brothers, James Thompson and Walter and Wilbur Barry.
He is survived by his wife, Virgina E. Snowden Barry whom he married June 8, 1940 in Columbus; two sons, Charles (Lyn) Barry of Richwood and Robert (Pat) Barry of Marion; two daughters, Rosann (George) Stickford of Dublin and Jodi (Tom) Stage of Grove City; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Omah Kilfian of Raymond.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Stofcheck Funeral Home in Richwood. The Rev. Bryan Lauzau will officiate and burial will be at the Price Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday.
Pall bearers will be Eric Stickford, Tim Barry, Alan Barry, Pat Stage, Tom Clark, Todd Cunningham, Reggie Streicher and Mitch Rogers.
