Clay C. Tilton


LARUE — Clay C. Tilton, age 82, of 9067 Linwood Road, LaRue, died Monday, Oct. 22, 2001, at 2 p.m. at his residence.
He was born June 2,1919, in Bowling Green Township, Marion County, to the late Starlev and Gail (Cook) Tilton.
He first married Sarah Sprague and she died in 1971. He then married Armilda Baker Harmon on Oct. 1,1971, and she survives.
Also surviving is one stepson, LeRoy Harmon of West Mansfield;  three stepdaughters. Marvina Shark of St. Matthew. S.C., Marlene (Ralph) Stidham of Jasper, Ark., and Marsha K. Harmon of LaRue; 10 stepgrand-children and nine stepgreat-grandchildren. One stepgrand-child is deceased.
He was a retired farmer, served in the U.S. Army during World War II. member of the Phillippi-Clement Post 101 American Legion at LaRue and is a past commander of the legion. He was a 1938 graduate of LaRue High School, attended the Essex United Methodist Church and was a member of the Union County Farm Bureau.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Oct. 26,2001, at 2 p.m. at the Stofcheck Funeral Home in LaRue. Minister will be the Rev. Fred Cheney. Burial in the LaRue Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home in LaRue from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, There will be graveside military rites conducted by the Marion Area United Veterans Council.
