Robert N. "Bob" Simpson


Robert N. "Bob" Simpson, 81, of Richwood died Saturday September 18, l999, at Marion General Hospital after a six-week illness.
He worked for Eljer's in Marysville and during World War II served in the U.S. Army 509th Parachute Infantry Regiment. After the war he worked for the former Ballinger Floor Coverings in Richwood, then became a self-employed floor mechanic. He was a member of the Richwood First United Methodist Church and the Marysville Horseshoe Club, a life member of Richwoood VFW Post 870 and a past member and Past Commander of Raymond VFW Post 9909. He was an avid gardener and fisherman.
He was born March 21, 1918, in Union County to the late John Wesley and Nellie Reed Simpson and was predeceased by four brothers, Ralph, Roy, Russell and Carlton; and two sisters, Lucille Thrush and Margaret Hamilton.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth M. Lowe Simpson whom he married Oct. 25, 1947, at the former United Brethren Church in Peoria; two sons, Bob (Nancy) Simpson of Marion and Ron (Jan) Simpson of Waldo; a daughter, Rhonda (Joe) Lane of Marion; nine grandchildren, Rachelle Simpson, Brit-tni Lane, Chrystal Simpson, Jennifer and Jill Simpson, Jared Lane, Ellen Lane, Veronica, Ferguson and Karie Ferguson; two brothers, John (Jean) Simpson of Marysville and Dane (Ivy) Simpson of Westerville; and sister, Maxine Mayberry of Claibourne.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Stofcheck Funeral Home in Richwood. The Rev. Joseph Rhea will officiate and burial will be at the Claibourne Cemetery where military services will be conducted by the Richwood VFW and American Legion posts. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Richwood First United Methodist Church junior and senior choirs.
