John Ed Mayers


John Ed Mayers, 72, of Prospect died Tuesday, June 1, 1999, at his home. He retired in the early 1990's after more than 30 years as a machise with Larcum and Mitchel in Deleware. He was also a retired farmer and after retiring, he worked as a driver for the Bill Rose Ford dealership in Richwood. He was a graduate of Magnetic Springs High School, a World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy and a former member of the Delaware Civil Air Patrol.
He was a faithful and active member of the St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Prospect and the church choir and the Prospect Lion's Club. He spent time in Canada where he enjoyed two of his passions, fishing and photography.
He was bom Oct. 19, 1926, in Marion County to the late Edward and Matilda "Tillie" H. Mollenauer Mayers.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy Burnside Mayers whom he married Nov. 24, 1988, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Prospect; a brother, James R. (Josephine) Mayers of Richwood; three nephews, Matthew (Tracy), Mark and Michael Mayers; two stepdaughters, Melissa and Jean Looney; a stepson, Steve Burggraf; and six grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Stofcheck Funeral Home in Richwood. The Rev. Stephen Bull will officiate and burial will be at the Claibourne. Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday.
Pall bearers will be Steve Burggraf, Jeff Robinson and Matthew, Mark, Michael and Jim Mayers. Honorary pall bearers will be Max Robinson, Bob McKitrick, Bill Watkins and Wilson Myers.
