Vernon Ralph Cowgill


Vernon Ralph Cowgill, 77, of Richwood, died Tuesday, March 17,1998, at Grady Memorial Hospital in Delaware.
A guard at Marion Correctional Institution, he served in the Army Paratroopers in World War II. He was a member of Baccarat Post 40 American Legion, VFW Post 870 and the Richwood Civic Center and was of the Methodist faith.
He was bom June 5, 1920, in Union County to the late Oliver and Edith Reece Cowgill. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, George and Dwight Cowgill, and a sister, Alberta Aukland.
Survivors include his wife, Henrietta Moyer Cowgill, whom he married June 22, 1970; two sons, Ralph L. (Nancy) Cowgill of North Lewisburg and Dennis (Pam) Cowgill of Marysville; a daughter, Elaine (Steve) Jolliff of North Lewisburg; four grandchildren; a brother, Max (Marian) Cowgill of Richwood; and a sister, Rose Marie Cook of Marysville.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at the Stofcheck Funeral Home in Richwood. The Rev. Barb Stevens will officiate and burial will be at the Prospect Cemetery where graveside military rites will be conducted by Baccarat Post 40 American Legion and VFW Post 870. Friends may call at the funeral home Friday from 5 to 8 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Richwood Civic Center or the First Baptist Church of Richwood.
