Matilda "Tillie" H. Mayers


Matilda "Tillie" H. Mayers, 95, formerly of the Magnetic Springs area, died Tuesday, Jan. 20, 1998, at Marion Manor Nursing Home where she had been living for the last 15 years.
She was a homemaker and active member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Prospect where she was a member, past president and district representative of the Women's Missionary Society and taught Sunday School and played piano for the church. She was a former member and past president of the Magnetic Springs Service Mothers Club and uring World War II, was active with the war effort, serving as president of the former Leesburg Magnetic Cannery.
She was born Sept. 6, 1902, in Shelby County to the late Rev. Samuel and Hannah Gross Mollenauer and was predeceased by two brothers and two sisters. She married Edward Mayers Oct. 18, 1923, in Marion and he died Oct. 25, 1973.
She is survived by two sons, John E. (Nancy) Mayers of Prospect and James R. (Josephine) Mayers of Richwood; three grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Stofcheck Funeral Home in Richwood. The Rev. Stephen Bull will officiate and burial will be at the Claibourne Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday.
