Norman Miller Griggs Jr.


LaRUE — Norman Miller Griggs Jr., 69, 175- N. Section St., died June 4, 1997 at his home.
Bom Oct. 8,1927, in Leechburg, Pa., he was the son of the late Norman M. and Pauline (Bailey)     Griggs Sr.
      On March'5,1948, he  married Irma Lou  Wall,   and   she  survives,      A graduate of  Anacostia High
School,
 Washington, D.C., he earned a bachelors and master's degree from DePauw University, Greencastle, Ind., and a doctorate  from Ohio State University. He taught science at Grand Prairie School, was executive head of Meeker School, taught at Eber Baker Junior High and was Tallmadge Junior High principal. Much of his life was spent as an assistant professor at the University of Akron. He retired from there and entered the law school at the University of Akron, where he earned a doctorate in jurisprudence: He practiced law in Bath. After moving to LaRue, he became the village solicitor for a time. He was also an area coordinator for Phi Delta Kappa. He served in the U.S. Navy as a pharmacist  mate during World War EL He was a member of the Phillippi Clement Post 101 American Legion, LaRue United Methodist Church,- - Lodge 463 F&AM, Mary Lenox Chapter 98 OES, White Shrine 15„ Marion Concert Band and- the Education Five Dance Band, while in Akron.
He is also survived by a son, N. Michael Griggs, North Canton; a daughter, Mrs. David (Susan) Read, Galena; a sister, Dorris Mitchell, Oracle, Ariz.; and four grandchildren.
The funeral is 10 ajn. Saturday at Stofcheck Funeral Home with the Rev. Joanne A. Powers officiating. Friends may call 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Masonic services will be held at 8:30 p.m. Friday.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Fund or the Central Ohio Diabetes Association.
