Floyd William Benson


GREEN VALLEY, Ariz. — Floyd William Benson, 96, 750 LaPosada Circle, formerly of Lima, Ohio, died June 7, 1997. at Park Centre Healthcare.
Born Dec. 22, 1900, in Terre Haute, Ind., he was the son of the late William E. and Saloma (Dierdorff) Benson.
On June 23, 1926, he married Vallie Louise Roderick. She died July 29,1993.
He moved to Arizona 10 years ago from Lima, Ohio. He was a member of Green Valley Community Church and also kept his membership at First Baptist Church, Lima, Ohio. He was the oldest living graduate of Rose-Hulman Polytechnic Institute, Terre Haute, Ind., where in 1923, he received his bachelor's of science degree in mechanical engineering. He formerly worked at Marion Power Shovel, Marion, Ohio. He was a 50-year member of Lodge 70 Free and Accepted Masons, Marion, Ohio, Scottish Rite, Valley of Dayton, Ohio, Elks Lodge 54, Lima, Ohio, and Country Club of Green Valley.
He is survived by a niece and a nephew and several cousins. He was preceded in death by a brother, Herbert B. Benson.
The funeral is 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Stofcheck Funeral Home, LaRue, Ohio, with the Rev. Kenneth R. Fey officiating.
Burial is in LaRue Cemetery. Friends may call one hour prior to the service Saturday at the funeral home.
