Marion E. Travis


Marion E. Travis, 85, formerly of Essex, died Tuesday, Oct. 8,1996, at Marion Manor Nursing Home in Marion.
He was a fanner and retired in 1985 as a guard from the Marion Correctional Institute after 26 years of service. He was a member of the former Jackson Grange and the Essex United Methodist Church, where he served for many years as Sunday School superintendent and caretaker. He helped care for the Price Cemetery.
He was born Oct. 17,1910, in Marion to the late William and Dessie Park Travis. He married Mildred Elizabeth Martino Jan. 4,1935, and she died Nov. 25,1981. He was also predeceased by a brother, a granddaughter and a greatgrandchild.
He is survived by three sons, Roger M. Travis of Newport, Ark., Ned E. Travis of Marion and Ted W. Travis of Essex; six grandchildren; six greatgrandchildren; and a brother, Howard TraYis of Marion.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Essex United Methodist Church. The Rev. Carman Minarik will officiate and burial will be at the Price Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Stofcheck Funeral Home in Richwood.
Pallbearers will be Robert J. Travis, Rodney Travis, Doug Gruber, James Morhart, Doug Hoffman, Bob Travis, Bill Travis and Jeff Marconet.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Essex Methodist Church.
