Merrit T. Monson


Merrit T. Monson, 83, of rural Richwood, died Monday, Aug. 19,1996, at Marion General Hospital.
A graduate of The Ohio State University, he taught vocational agriculture in Hancock County for 10 years before moving to Richwood. In the Richwood area, he farmed for more than 30 years before retiring due to illness.
A member of the Essex United Methodist Church, he taught adult Sunday School for many years. He was a member of the Union County Farm Bureau and the Richwood Civic Center and assumed leadership positions with the Landmark Cooperative. He was also on the board of directors of the Union County Soil and Water Conservation and had served on the former Byhalia School Board.
He was bom May 8,1913, in West Jackson to the late Theodore and Florence Temple Monson. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Dorothy Rush and Margaret Dreyer; and two brothers, Granville Monson and C.L. (Ted) Monson.
Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth Davis Monson, whom he married June 18, 1938 in Norwalk; two daughters, June (Jerry) Boyd of Fort Smith, Ark., and Bettie Finkin of Bryan; four grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; one sister, Mrs. Starling Collins of Richwood; and one brother, Jared Monson of Radnor.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Stofcheck Funeral Home in Richwood. The Rev. Larry Snavely will officiate and burial will be in Price Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday.

Pallbearers are Russell Borland, Bruce Davis, Mike and Rick Hoffman, John Monson and David Monson.
Honorary pallbearers will be John Mohr, Frank Davis, Cliff Wasserbeck and Clvde Carter.
