Walter L. Benson


Former LaRue native Walter L. Benson, 77, Gypsy Lane Road, Bowling Green, died Tuesday evening June 7 1994 at St. Vincent Medical Center, Toledo.
He was born June 11, 1916, a son of Esley and Anna (Wolf) Benson.
He was retired from serving as an engineer with Conraii Railroad, and was a World War JJ veteran, having served in the Pacific Theater. He was a member of St Aloysius Church, Eagles Aerie 2180 and Am vets Post 711, all Bowling Green; a lifememberofVFWPost 1080 and Kenton Elks Lodge 157, as well as 37th Division Veterans Service Co. 148 Infantry Association; member of the Military Order of Cooties, serving as grand senior vice commander, and Marion Moose Lodge 889, and Bradner American Legion Post 338. He served as state representative to the Ohio Veterans Home in Sandusky, and was named as Volunteer of the Year at the home in 1991.
Mr. Benson is survived by his wife, the former Sharon Ridgway: a son, George Benson, Roseville, Mich.; stepchildren Gail Greenisen, Loveland, Eugene Strojek, Simi Valley, Calif., Nick Westrick, Fremont, Ind., Sue Haynes and Michael and David Ridgway, Bowling Green, and Scott Ridgway, Chicago, 111; three brothers, Edward and Frank Benson, LaRue, James Benson, Marion; four sisters, Alice Cochran, Clarkssville, Tenn., Irene Ballinger, Rancho Mirage, Calif., Mary Appelfeller, LaRue, and Barb Cronin, Bradenton, Fla.; two stepgrandchildren; and an aunt and an uncle.
