Madonna Speyer


RICHWOOD — Madonna Speyer, 88, Kinney Pike, died Saturday morning May 22, 1993 at the Arbors of Columbus. She was bom Sept. 18, 1904, in Cincinnati, to parents James and Anna (Hard) Maddex.
Mrs. Speyer was a homemaker and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, LaRue, where she was also a member
of St. Joseph's Guild. She was a 1923 graduate of Richwood High School. She attended Bliss College and was the oldest living member of the Carpe Diem Club having joined in 1929.
She was also a member of the Richwood Lions Club and Claibourne Grange, of which she currently was serving as secretary.
Mrs. Speyer also served as secretary for Richwood Alumni Association; was a member of Richwood Bridge Club; executive member of Union County Democrats; and past president and secretary of the Union County B oard of Elections.
On Oct. 1, 1924, in Wheeling, W. Va., she married Paul G. Speyer. He survives.
Also surviving are a son, Paul J. Speyer, Richwood; two daughters, Kathryn A. Hook, Richwood, and Sarah J. Habinak, Houston, Texas; 13 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were a brother, Horace L. Maddox and a grandson.
A funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, LaRue.
Friends may call 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday at Stofcheck Funeral Home, Richwood, with prayer services to be at 3:30 p.m.
The Rev. Joseph Losh and the Rev. Dean Matthewson will officiate with burial in Price Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Fund and or the Richwood Alumni Association.
