Lena I. Gillespie


Lena I. Gillespie, 97, 3550 Wen-wood Drive, Hilliard, a former LaRue resident, died Tuesday morning Sept. 22, 1987 in Arbors at Hilliard nursing home.
She was born in LaRue May 5,1890, a daughter of Calvin H. and Lenora Lenox Topliff.
A LaRue resident most of her life, she was a home economics teacher with the former LaRue High School and had attended Hillsdale College. She moved to Hilliard three years ago.
Mrs. Gillespie was a member of LaRue United Methodist Church, a 78-year member of Mary Lenox Chapter 98 Order of the Eastern Star, and a member of LaRue Business Women's Club, 20th Century Club, Happy Tyme Club and LaRue Senior Citizens.
Her husband, Charles E. Gillespie, died June 1946.
Surviving are three sons, Lewis E. Gillespie, Gallipolis, Charles T. Gillespie, Nachez, Miss. and Lauren G. Gillespie, Hilliard; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Two brothers and a sister
preceded her in death.
The service will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday in Stofcheck Funeral Home, LaRue, with the Rev. Edwin K. Vance officiating. Burial will follow in LaRue Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. and in the evening Thursday. Eastern Star services will be conducted there at 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Mary Lenox Chapter 98 OES.
