Cates died at 8:20 a.m. Tues-day in Marion Genera! Hospital after an illness of two years.    
He was born in Montgomery Township, Marion County, Jan. / 19, 1913, to Claud and Edna) (Irvine) Cates and was a life- long resident of the area. He married Frances Ardena Buck on Oct. 16, 1934 and she survives.
He was a farmer and was a member of the Meeker United Methodist Church. He also held memberships in the LaRue Lodge 463 F&AM; Marion chapter 62 R.A.M.; Marion Council 22 R.S.M.; Mary Lenox chapter 98 O.E-S. and the Marion   County   Agricultural
In addition to his wife survivors are a daughter Mrs. Kay E. Collins of Marion; three sisters, Mrs. Emerson (Madeline) Dietsch of rural Marion, Mrs. Tom (Imo) Na-vin of Marysville and Mrs. Raymond (Mabel) Rhoads of rural Meeker.
A brother Forrest is deceased.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in the Stofcheck-Ford Funeral Home in LaRue, with the Rev. Vidya Rampal officiating. Burial will be in Meeker Cemetery.
