Maye Darby, 88, a resident of the Saratoga Hospital Nursing Home in
Saratoga, N.Y., formerly of Greenwich, N.Y., and Columbus, died at the nursing home Sunday, Jan. 12, 2003. She was a life member and past president of Liberty Unit 515 American Legion Auxiliary and life member of Post 7291 VFW Auxiliary in Greenwich and the Cambridge Senior Citizens. She was a member of Saratoga Eagles Auxiliary 2586, a member for more than 50 years of Ladies Moose Lodge 206 in Columbus and a communicant of St. Joseph's Church in Greenwich. She was a graduate of Radnor High School and Marion Business College in Marion. She was born April 13, 1914, to the late Ira and Estella Kenyon Oswald and was predeceased by her husbands, Gilson J. Bass and Sim M. Darby; two brothers, Charles Lee Oswald and William Oswald; and a sister, Mary Alice Leaper. She is survived by a son, Gilson J. (Patricia) Bass of Easton, N.Y.; a daughter, Stella (Jerry) Strahan of Kamiah, Idaho; her twin sister, Faye Rouse of Orville; a brother, Arthur Oswald of Prospect; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Gehm-Ballinger Funeral Home in Prospect where friends may call one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at the Prospect Cemetery.
