Charles E. Mehaffey | |||
Charles E. Mehaffey, 83, of Prospect died Saturday, Nov. 16, 2002, at
his home where he was born. He was the beloved husband of the late Opal L. Bayles, whom he married Oct. 20, 1940. He was a lifelong farmer and in 1938 was selected as a regional Star Farmer of the national FFA organization. He was a school bus driver for the Elgin schools for 25 years and after retirement worked at Meijer in Marion. He was a member of the Prospect United Methodist Church, a past Worshipful Master of Prospect Lodge 444 F&AM and a past board member of the Prospect Farmers Exchange. He was born Aug. 21, 1919, to the late Charles D. and Alice I. Bender Mehaffey and was predeceased by his wife; a daughter, Shirley Ann; and a great-granddaughter. He is survived by two sons, John (Becky) Mehaffey and Robert (Kate) Mehaffey of Prospect; two daughters, Alice (Charles) Belt of North Olmstead and Ruth Ann Price of Prospect; 11 grandchildren; Nannette Mehaffey Murphy, Amy Mehaffey, Lynn Golden, Michelle Mehaffey Zimmerman, Chrissi Mehaffey, John Belt, Sondra Belt Wendt, Sean, Simon and Sarah Mehaffey and Charlie Summers; and 14 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Prospect United Methodist Church. The Rev. David L. Hoffman will officiate and burial will be at the Prospect Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Gehm-Ballinger Funeral Home.
