James R. Gast


James R. Gast, 81, of Prospect died unexpectedly Sunday. June 18. 2000.
at Monterey Care Center in Grove City.
He -was a retired corn and soybean farmer and supplied sweet corn for
many local celebrations. He was retired as manager of the Marion Elks
Lodge where he was known for cooking wild game. He hunted and fished
throughout the country, frequently hunting big game with Indian guides on
horseback in the western United States, lie was able to continue hunting
squirrels throughout his life and two weeks ago completed a fishing trip with
friends to Tennessee. He was a life member of the Ohio Harness Horsemen's
Association and could be seen watching the races at the area's county fairs
each summer. He- was a life member of Marion Elks Loose 32 and a'member
of Marion Moose Lodge SS9. Dunvood Knights of Pythias in Prospect
and the Prospect United Methodist Church.
He was born Dec. 3.1918. in Radnor to the late Ray L. and Bess Van Osten
Cast and was predeceased by a brother and a sister. He married Esther L Fox
March !2. 1940. and she died July 15. 1989.
He is survived by a sister. Betty G. Hughes of Grove Citv: a cousin.
Earnest Gast: tv.o sisters-in-law. Dorothy (Luther) Hedges and Ruth (AJ)
Trelfall: a nephew: and four nieces.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.ra. Wednesday at the Gehm-Ballinser
Funeral Home in Prospect. The Rev. David L. Hoffman will officiate and
burial wili be at the Prospect Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to S p.m.
Tuesday.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Prospect United Methodist
Church Memorial Fund in care of the funeral home.
