Vaughn W. Willey, 81, of rural Prospect died Tuesday, Oct. 21, 1997, at
Medcenter Hospital in Marion after having been in failing health for several years. He was retired after 30 years with the Whirlpool Corporation and was a member of the Prospect United Methodist Church. He served as a machine gun sergeant in the U.S. Army in the 34th Field Artillery, 9th Infantry Division. From 1942 to 1945 he served in North Africa, Sicily, Normandy. France, Belgium, RhLneland, Ardennes and Central Europe. He received the Bronze Star in Sicily. He was born Aug. 26, 1916, in Morral to the late Otto and Margaret Ingle Willey and was predeceased by a son, Robert T. Willey. He is survived by his wife, Jean Braun Wiley whom he married Oct. 27, 1945, in Newport, Ky.; a daughter, Yvonne (Ron) Malone of Prospect; three grandchildren, Douglas B. Malone of Prospect, Matthew R. Malone of Marion and Chris (Kerri) Oney of Marion; two great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Clyde Willey of Waldo and Robert Willey of Prospect Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Gehm-Ballinger Funeral Home in Prospect. The Rev. David Hoffman will officiate and burial will be at the Prospect Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday. Memorial contributions may be made to the Prospect United Methodist Church memorial fund. | |||
