Marie L. Joseph


Marie L. Joseph “Toots”, 82 of Prospect, went home to be with the Lord peacefully on Tuesday, September 26, 2006.  She was born February 21, 1924 in Pikeville, KY to the late Roscoe and Minnie (Lowe) Leslie.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Larry (Annie) Joseph and brother Mayo Leslie.

Marie is survived by her husband, Arnold Joseph, whom she married May 5, 1942, daughter, Betty (Jerry) Remlinger, Prospect; sister Edith Maynard, Pikeville, KY; brothers, Gene (JoAnn) Lowe, Prospect; Toy (Pat) Leslie, Marion; niece, Linda Lou Brandenburg; nephews, Nelson (Theresa) Maynard, Paul (Priscilla) Maynard; grandchildren, Shon (Sheila) Remlinger, Tasha (Rob) Terrill, Jason (Jennie) Joseph; great-grandchildren, Drew Joseph, Ayden, Ashton, Larsen, Shelby, Brittany and Bo Terrill; and many other relatives and friends.

She was employed at BF Goodrich Co. for 28 years and owned and operated the Hocking Valley Train Station Restaurant in Prospect for 10 years.  In her earlier years, Marie was active in her O.C.C.L. Mother’s Club, Prospect K. of P., the Marion Democratic Club, and numerous civic and church activities.  She was also a member of the Prospect United Methodist Church and Prospect Senior Citizens.  Marie had a youthful spirit.  She loved being with her family and friends and enjoyed gardening, sewing, quilting, cooking and baking.  Until recently, she baked cookies each week for the families at Chapel Hill House.  Marie was a loving, wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend and will be truly missed.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, September 30, 2006 at 10:00 AM in the Prospect United Methodist Church with Rev. Daniel A. Kiger officiating.  Friends may call from 4 to 7 PM on Friday at the Gehm-Ballinger Funeral Home, Prospect.  Burial will be in Prospect Cemetery.  Friends will be received afterwards for a luncheon.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Prospect United Methodist Church – Project Faith or Chapel Hill House.  Condolences to the family may be expressed at www.ballingerfuneralhome.com.
