Lowell Leroy Somerlot


Lowell Leroy Somerlot, 87, of Wabash, IN died Friday, October 20, 2006 at 5:45pm at Wabash Skilled Care Center in Wabash.  He was born January 10, 1919 on his grandfather's farm on Somerlot Road in Pleasant Twp, Marion County, Ohio to Carl Erastus and Hazel Irene (Garrett) Somerlot.  He married Wanda Louise Easterday on May 3, 1953 at the Asbury United Methodist Church in Delaware, Ohio; she died December 6, 1983.

Lowell enjoyed farming.  He began farming when the implements were pulled behind a team of horses.  He worked his parent's farm for several years.  He worked at Central Soya in Marion, Ohio for 29 years, retiring in 1984.  He graduated from Pleasant High School.  Lowell was an Army Air Corps aircraft maintenance technician during WWII serving in Brazil and Florida.  Mr. Somerlot attended the Wabash Bible Holiness Church.  He enjoyed reading and word searches.  In his later years his hobby became grocery shopping.  He lived in Wabash since 1991 coming from Richwood, Ohio.

He is survived by Daughter, Janet Elaine Somerlot of Wabash, IN; Son, James Edward Somerlot of North Manchester, IN; Daughter-in-Law, Regina Ann (Haynes) Somerlot of Wabash, IN; 4 Grandchildren, Daniel Lynn Somerlot of Wabash, IN, Philip Lowell Somerlot of Wabash, IN, Jonathan Walter Somerlot of North Manchester, IN, Emily Michelle Somerlot of Wabash, IN; Sister, Evelyn (Harold) Baker of Richwood, OH.  He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers, Otis, Alvin, Paul, and Raymond Somerlot, and 2 sisters, Iva Fetter and Irene Augenstien.
   
Wabash funeral services will be held at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, 1241 Manchester Avenue, Wabash, on Monday, October 23, 2006 at 7:00pm with Rev. Edward Miller officiating.  Friends may call from 2-7pm Monday at the funeral home.  Ohio funeral services will be held at Ballinger Funeral Home, Richwood on Thursday, October 26, 2006 at 11:00am with Rev. Edward Miller officiating.  Burial will follow at Claibourne Cemetery.  Friends may call 2-4 & 6-9pm, Wednesday, October 25 at Ballinger's.
