Pearl Johnston


Pearl Clayton Johnston, 87, of Richwood died Friday, April 13, 2007 at Heartland of Marysville.  He was born May 21, 1919 in Bellaire, Michigan to the late Clayton Pearl and Mary Lavina (Ellinwood) Johnston.

He was a member of the Central United Methodist Church, Richwood, Mt. Carmel #303 Free and Accepted Masons in Richwood, and the former Chapter 42 Order of the Eastern Star.  After graduating from Richwood High School, Pearl served 4 ½ years in the U. S. Army during WWII, earning a Purple Heart and the Silver Star.  He loved fishing, his carpentry work and his church.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Lelan Maxine (Poulson) Johnston, a sister, Genevieve (Charles W.) Chapman, Mt. Gilead, and many nephews and nieces.  He was preceded in death by 2 sons.

Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, April 17, 2007 at 1:00 P.M. in the Ballinger Funeral Home, Richwood with Rev. Bryan Lauzau officiating.  Burial will follow in the Claibourne Cemetery where military honors will be provided by the Richwood Veterans.  Visitation will be from 4 to 6 PM on Monday with a Masonic Service at 6:00 PM.
