Darrell Eugene “Punky” Gerfen


Darrell Eugene “Punky” Gerfen, 46, of Prospect died Friday, July 6, 2007 at OSU Medical Center.  He was born November 9, 1960 in Delaware, OH to Darrell and Janet (Schwaderer) Gerfen, who both survive in Prospect.

He was a member of Peace Community United Church of Christ, a 1979 Graduate of Elgin High School; 1981 Graduate of Marion Technical College where he was class speaker.  He received a state degree from FFA, was a 4-H member for 10 years, and had been Marion County Fair King.  An avid farm toy collector, he was a member of the Marion Steam and Gas Society, John Deere 2-cylinder club and the National Farm Toy Museum.  He never missed a toy show within 50 miles and was an avid reader.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by 1 sister Lorri (Mark) Hoffman, Prospect; 2 brothers, Steven (Kim) Gerfen, Marion; David (Deb) Gerfen, Prospect; nephews and nieces, Danielle Dutton, Megan Kaufman, Tyler Kaufman, Kayla Gerfen, Clay Gerfen, Nole Gerfen; grandfather Franklin Gerfen, Prospect; Godparents, De Lynn and Eilene Kale, Richwood; and his Rat-Terrier, Taffy.

Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, July 10 at 10:00 A.M. in the Peace Community United Church of Christ, Waldo with Rev. John Bradley officiating.  Burial will follow in Prospect Cemetery.  Friends may call from 4 to 8 PM on Monday at the Gehm-Ballinger Funeral Home, Prospect.  Pallbearers will be Steven Gerfen, David Gerfen, Mark Hoffman, De Lynn Kale, Mike Dietsch and David Borland; honorary pallbearers will be Tyler Kaufman, Clay Gerfen and Nole Gerfen.
