Maxine Mayberry


Maxine Mayberry, 81, of Claibourne, died peacefully Thursday evening, February 7, 2008 at her home surrounded by her loving family.  She was born April 11, 1926 in Marysville to the late Wesley and Nellie (Reed) Simpson.

On March 28, 1943 she married John M. Mayberry in Greenup, KY and he died July 13, 1998.

She was a member of the Advent Christian Church in Claibourne, and the Richwood Civic Center where she enjoyed playing bingo and making prizes for the winners.  She was a talented craft maker and enjoyed craft shows, garage sales and shopping.  She was a homemaker, to whom family was very important.  She was a grandma to all the family foster kids.  She loved to cook for people, and prided herself in making whatever a person’s favorite food was.  Strawberry jam was one of her specialties.

She is survived by a son, John (Jennie) Mayberry, Mechanicsburg; four daughters, Sharon (Bob) Stillings, Claibourne; Diane (Paul) Rice, Claibourne; Mina (Bill) Rose, St. Paris; Lisa (Tim) Cunningham, Claibourne; 25 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by seven brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services will be held Monday, February 11, 2008 at 11:00 AM in the Stofcheck-Ballinger Funeral Home, Richwood with Pastors Dan Grose and Todd Stillings.  Burial will follow in Claibourne Cemetery.  Friends may call from 2 to 5 PM on Sunday.
