Helen Easterday


Helen Easterday, 90, formerly of Richwood, died Tuesday, May 27, 2008 at the home of her daughter in Marysville surrounded by her loving family.  She was born February 17, 1918 in North Lewisburg to the late William and Dora (McIntire) Speakman.

On May 11, 1935 she married Samuel F. Easterday, and he died Sept. 11, 1984.

She was a long-time member of the VFW Post 870 Ladies Auxiliary.  She loved gardening, quilting, and making doll clothes and baby clothes for her grandkids.  Her real enjoyment was spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  

She is survived by a son, Sam (Nina) Easterday, Marion; two daughters, Letha Gibson, Marion; Adella Easterday, Marysville; 13 grandchildren, Kathy Gibson, Marion; Judy (Dale) Van Horn, Dublin; Bill (Paula) Gibson, Galion; John Gibson, Marion;  Sam (Laura) Easterday Jr., Marion; Curtis (Trina) Easterday, Marion; James Easterday, Marion; Kristen Easterday, Marion; Bonnie (Gary) Mills, Richwood; Rona (Roy) Penix, Richwood; Gary (Sharon) Griffith, California; Danielle (Matt) Cline, Marysville; Abbie (John) Kinikin, Delaware; two sisters-in-law, Cora Speakman, Marysville; Cindy Speakman, Richwood; 18 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.

Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Griffith; four brothers, a sister, a granddaughter, a great-grandson and a great-great-son.

Funeral Services will be held Friday, May 30, 2008 at 11:00 AM in the Stofcheck-Ballinger Funeral Home, Richwood.  Burial will follow in Claibourne Cemetery.  Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM on Thursday.
