Millard Duane Stillings


Millard Duane Stillings, 80, of Richwood passed away at his home surrounded by his loving family on Saturday morning, October 25, 2008.  He was born June 26, 1928 in Irwin to the late Millard and Margaret (Thomas) Stillings.

On September 23, 1951 he married JoAnn Cramer and she survives.

He was a lifelong farmer as well as working in other agriculture-related professions.  He was a member of Richwood First United Methodist Church where he served in many capacities.  Among Duane’s many other community involvements, he was Claibourne Township Clerk for 24 years, Richwood Fair Board Member/Treasurer/Honorary Member, Up & Coming 4-H Club Advisor, Mt. Carmel Lodge F&AM for more than 50 years, Union County Shrine Club, 32nd Degree Mason more than 50 years and 25-year member of Scottish Rite, Richwood Lions Club, American Legion, Richwood Civic Center, where he was active in men’s Breakfast Group, Union Soil & Water Conservation Board, Milford Center Grange, member of Championship Softball Team, enjoyed harness racing as a spectator and participant in the Grumpy Old Men stable, lifelong fan of the Columbus Clippers, Cincinnati Reds, Cleveland Indians and OSU Ladies Basketball.  His favorite place to visit was Branson, Missouri.  He was a graduate of Hilliard High School, FFA Chapter President and State Farmer Degree, 1946, and was a veteran of the U. S. Air Force.  He dedicated his life to his family, his faith, his farm, and his community.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, JoAnn Stillings, three daughters, Trudy (Alan) Anders, New Albany; Lisa Stillings, Dublin; Kay (Pat) French, Delaware; a son, Ron (Debbie) Stillings, Beavercreek; grandchildren, Adam French; Brian French, Emily Stillings; two sisters, Karma (Don) Wuertz, Delaware; Beth (William) Zeallear, Columbus and many nieces, nephews and cousins.  He was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Milton Stillings.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, October 29, 2008 at 11:00 AM in the First United Methodist Church, Richwood with Pastor Joe Rhea officiating.  Burial will follow in Claibourne Cemetery where military honors will be provided by the Richwood Area Veterans.  Friends may call from 4 to 8 PM on Tuesday, at the Stofcheck-Ballinger Funeral Home, Richwood where Masonic Services will be held at 8:00.
