Mable G. Watkins


Mable Gertrude (Swartz) (Daugherty) Watkins, age 90, died Wednesday December 3, 2008 at 7:10 PM at her daughter’s home after an extended period of declining health.
She was born October 24, 1918 to the late Ernest and Eva Gertrude (Decker) Swartz in Warrensburg, Ohio.  In 1962 she married John J. Watkins and they lived in Prospect,Ohio and he died in 1984. Mable was previously married to Phillip A. Daugherty, they lived in Pleasant Twp and he died in 1971.
Mable’s talents were many. Crocheting, knitting, embroidery work of extreme beauty, sewing, baking, especially angle food cakes, excellent cook, and at the age of eighty she began writing poetry.  All these talents were acquired over many years because she was always willing to try and would never accept defeat. She leaves a legacy to admire.  She belonged to the Jolly Joysters for many years and treasured their friendships.
Mable is survived by three children; Sara Baxter of Radnor, Phyllis (Bill) Carey of Green Camp, David (Martha) Daugherty of Marion.  Eleven Grandchildren and twenty-three Great Grandchildren. One sister; Ernestine Lowe of Warrensburg and numerous nieces and nephews. Two step-sons, John W. Watkins of Prospect, and Wayne (Dottie) Watkins of Brookville. Five step Grandchildren, Eleven step Great Grandchildren, and Five step Great-Great Grandchildren. She was preceded in death by son in law David Baxter, step daughter in law Jackie Watkins and five sisters.
Funeral Services will be held Monday December 8, 2008 at 11:00 AM at the Prospect United Methodist Church. Minister will be The Rev. Debra Ketcham.  Burial in the Prospect Cemetery.  Friends may call at the Stofcheck-Ballinger Funeral Home in Prospect from 3 to 6 PM on Sunday.
