Shelby J. Guthery


Shelby J. Guthery, age 69 of LaRue, died Tuesday evening, March 3, 2009 at her home surrounded by her loving family.  She was born February 27, 1940 in Honaker, Virginia to the late Howard and Blanche (Taylor) Ball. She was also predeceased by a son, Tracey Primavera and 2 brothers, Guy and Charles Ball.

She married William C. Guthery in June, 1976 and he died in May, 2005.  Shelby, along with her husband, owned and operated the family business, Marion County International Raceway for 33 years until Shelby retired in 2007.  Shelby was pleased that the Raceway continues to be under the family’s direction, with her son Mark and his wife Kelly at the helm; this truly is a family business.

She was a member and former president of the Altrusa Club; she was active in her community, generously giving to local causes like the LaRue Area Park and the Oorang Bang Festival and the local schools.  For the past 10 years, she had enjoyed spending her winters in Estero, Florida, where golfing and going to the beach were among her favorite activities.

She is survived by a son: Mark (Kelly) Primavera of LaRue, her Grandchildren, who were the true joys of her life: Ashley Albert, Preston and Austin Primavera and Great Grandson: Hagen Albert

Sisters- in- Law: Lillian Ball of Horn Lake, Mississippi and Edna Ball of Ft. Worth, Texas

Memorial Services will be held Saturday March 7, 2009 at 11:00 am at the Stofcheck-Ballinger Funeral Home in Richwood, where friends may call Friday from 4-8 pm, Pastor Keith Irey will officiate, private burial will take place at a later date in the Mansfield Memorial Park.
