Mildred Evans McNeal


Mildred Evans McNeal, age 97 of Prospect, died Thursday, April 23, 2009 at her home, surrounded by her loving family.  She was born April 2, 1912 in Powell to the late Hazel Martin Evans Brim and James Charles Evans.

She married B. Weldon McNeal of Prospect on June 6, 1937 and he died Jan. 15, 1992.

She attended Powell and Latchie schools and graduated valedictorian from Prospect High School in 1930.  She also attended OSU and Merriel Palmer at Detroit, Mich., graduating in 1934.  She taught Home Economics at North Canton High School from 1934-1936, Vocational Home Economics at Toronto High School from 1936-1937, Green Camp from 1961-1962 and Prospect Elementary for 21 years.

She belonged to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Prospect, Sunday School and Katherine Luther Circle; member of Prospect, Marion and Richwood Senior Citizens; Powell Liberty Historical Society; Delaware and Marion Ohio Genealogy; Mary Chapter #9 Order of the Eastern Star; Radnor Grange #1977; Associate member National Camping Travelers #20; AARP; life member of OSU Alumni Assoc.; Marion County Retired Teachers; Ohio Retired Teachers and N. E. A.

She is survived by three daughters, Barbara Ann (Robert) Teague of Pickerington; Juanita (William) Hughes of Prospect; Peggy (Charles) Hall of Marysville; a son, Nathan (Christine) McNeal of Kimbolton; 13 grandchildren, 6 step-grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, 10 step-great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild; a sister, Martha June Hamilton of Columbus and a brother, Eugene Brim, Mansfield.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her step-father and a sister.

Funeral services will be held Monday, April 27, 2009 at 11:00 AM in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church with Pastor David Bliss officiating.  Burial will follow in Prospect Cemetery.  Friends may call from 2 to 6 PM on Sunday at the Stofcheck-Ballinger Funeral Home, Prospect where an Eastern Star service will be held at 6:00 PM.
