Ruth Frances Blue Hickman

Ruth Frances Blue Hickman, age 91 of Mt. Victory, died early Sunday morning November 22, 2009 at the Gables in Green Pastures. She was born June 5, 1918 in Jackson Township, Union County to the late Charles W. and Martha Rebecca (Hall) Blue.

She grew up in the West Jackson area where she attended grade school.  She graduated from Essex high School in 1935 and Richwood High School in 1936.  Ruth was baptized in and was a member of the Essex (now Rush Creek) United Methodist Church.  During her adult years she belonged to the Mt. Victory United Methodist Church.

As a child she enjoyed following her father and brothers around helping with the farm chores.  This experience was useful for her when she became the wife of Harold W. Hickman.  He and his father were involved with raising livestock and grain.  She fell into helping with the work and became an important partner in the farming operation.

They also enjoyed many good times with friends, especially Harold’s childhood friend from Meeker, Murray Kannel and his wife, Roma.  Each year they enjoyed fishing trips to Monson’s in Minnesota.  They also enjoyed belonging to a card club, which met regularly, and even took some long trips together, like sailing to Hawaii.  Although they never had any children of their own, they welcomed many friends and family into their home throughout the years.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a sister, Mildred, brothers, Glenn H. and Clair and niece, Josephine and nephew, David.

She is survived by her sister, Ruby Fox, nieces and nephews, Rebecca George, Glenn Blue, Charlene Conrad, Janet Dysert, Kevin Blue and Deborah Lawyer and families.

She was loved by her family and friends and enjoyed their company in her home until her health failed.  After a short hospitalization in April 2005 she had made her home at The Gables in Marysville.
