Guy Chapman


Guy M. Chapman, age 64, of Bucyrus, died Wednesday April 7, 2010 at 10:16 PM at O.S.U. Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio.  He was born September 2, 1945 in Charleston, West Virginia to the late Hershel H. and Wavie M. (Hayes) Chapman.
On December 20, 1987 in the Fairway-Waycraft gym he married the former Brenda Shearer Roseberry and she survives.
Also surviving are one son; Jason (Karen) Chapman of Bucyrus, step daughter; Marni (Todd) Stiles of Marion, two grandsons; Cody Chapman of Ontario and Zayin Stiles of Marion.  Two sisters; Velma Roberts of LaRue and Peggy Chapman of Apple Valley, CA, a sister-in-law Sue Chapman of Marion. Numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. And a special friend from high school Otis Anderson of Dillon, Montana.   A Brother Milford and a sister Phyllis Rhoden preceded him in death.
A 1963 graduate of Holmes-Liberty High School.  He attended The Ohio State University and graduated from Otterbein College in Westerville. He was a teacher and coach at St Paul School in Westerville, Holy Trinity School in Bucyrus, and Colonel Crawford High School.
From 1972 to 1977 he sold insurance for the George Crawford Agency in Marion.  George became a special  friend and mentor. In 1977 he returned to his first love of teaching and coaching. He was hired to teach physical education at Fairway-Waycraft.  He was humbly proud of the many accomplishments  of the special people with whom he was associated. While attending The Ohio State University, he was privileged to be in coaching classes with two remarkable men, Woody Hayes and Fred Taylor. He was immensely proud of the Fairway-Waycraft unified volleyball team, which won the 2004 National Championship in Atlanta.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday April 10, 2010 at 2:00 PM at the Stofcheck-Ballinger Funeral Home 210 S. High St. LaRue, Ohio.
Minister will be the Rev. Herb Jordan, Burial in the LaRue Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home in LaRue 2 hours before service time on Saturday.  
Those who wish may make contribution to the Fairway-Waycraft sports program in care of the funeral home.
