Wayne L. Cox


Wayne L. Cox, age 62 of Richwood died unexpectedly Saturday morning, July 3, 2010 at Marion General Hospital.  He was born February 12, 1948 in Kenton to the late James Ruby and Berdina Opal (Kerns) Cox.

He was a truck driver who had driven a fuel oil truck for Champagne Landmark for many years.  He was an avid musician who loved bluegrass and played several instruments.  He enjoyed going to Blue Grass Festivals and also playing in bands.  His most recent gig was playing in a coffee shop in Bellefontaine.  Wayne was a farmer who enjoyed restoring farm equipment.  He was very good with tools and could fix just about anything.  He was very family oriented and enjoyed visiting with family members.

He is survived by a son, Alan Cox; a daughter, Berdina; two granddaughters, Alivia and Alisha Cox, who inherited Wayne’s musical talents; four sisters, Wanda (Dave) Slonecker, Richwood; Wilma (Rick) Ferguson, Bellefontaine; Nina (Mario) Garza and Rubi (John) Franco, both of Texas; a cousin and longtime friend, Jim Cox, Byhalia and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Friday, July 9, 2010 at 11:00 AM in the Stofcheck-Ballinger Funeral Home, Richwood with Pastor Matt Craig officiating.  Burial will follow in New Salem Cemetery.  Friends may call from 5 to 8 PM on Thursday.
