Joyce R. Erwin


Joyce R. Erwin, age 77 of Richwood died Saturday, September 11, 2010 at Grady Memorial Hospital in Delaware.  She was born December 27, 1932 to the late Ernest Verne and Dorothy Mae (Kennedy) Hamilton.

On June 21, 1951 she married Louis Erwin at the former Central United Methodist Church and he survives in Richwood.  She is also survived by four daughters, Deborah (James) Grindell, Dallas, Texas; Phyllis Murray, Richwood; Christine (Spencer) Schalip, Marysville; Cathy Beatty, Columbus; 6 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren; a brother, Jerry (Jackie) Hamilton, Marion; a sister, Roberta (Roger) Evans, Richwood and a sister-in-law, Ava Hamilton, Radnor.  She was preceded in death by a brother, Jack Hamilton.

She was a 1950 graduate of Richwood High School.  She was retired from Fulfillment Corporation of Marion where she worked over 30 years.  She was a very active member of the former Central United Methodist Church, serving as choir director and Sunday school teacher.  A former 4-H advisor for almost ten years, she enjoyed teaching sewing to many young ladies in the area.  Joyce enjoyed quilting, gardening, working with her flowers, and canning.  She had been a member of the PTA and had been active with the band boosters when her children were in school.  In recent years, when she was able, she had attended the Fulton Creek Friends Church.  The center of her life was her loving and devoted family.

Funeral services will be Thursday, September 16, 2010 at 11:00 AM in the Stofcheck-Ballinger Funeral Home, Richwood with Pastor Joe Kirby officiating.  Burial will follow in Claibourne Cemetery.  Friends may call from to 4 to 7 PM on Wednesday.
