Jonah Blue


Jonah Blue, age 91 of Marion died early Monday morning, December 6, 2010 at Marion General Hospital.   He was born October 28, 1919 in Richwood, the youngest of ten children to the late Jesse and Lida (Tracy) Blue.

On October 28, 1951 he married the former Anna Mae Johnston and she survives in Marion.

He worked at Marion Power Shovel on the test stand for 30 years. A World War II Army veteran, he served with the Armored Infantry Division known as Patton’s Second Army.  He drove the lead tank in battle and at times drove General Patton’s sedan.  He was a lifetime member of the Stephen J. Chaney Post 7201 VFW.  Jonah was a big New England Patriots fan and was known by all who knew him as an “ornery cuss.”

He is survived by his wife, Anna Mae; three daughters, Deborah Dawson, Marion; Karen Blue-Temple and her husband, James, Byhalia; Sharon Blue, Phoenix, Arizona; five grandchildren, Elizabeth Bennett, Julie Combs, Corey Spencer, Jesse Blue Spencer, Andrew Brown; and 8 great-grandchildren.   He was preceded in death by 9 brothers and sisters.

A memorial service will be held Monday, December 13, 2010 at 11:00 AM in the Stofcheck-Ballinger Funeral Home, Richwood with Pastor Joe Rhea officiating.  Military honors will be provided by the Richwood Area Veterans.  Friends may call one hour prior to the service.
