Ernest C. Schrote


Ernest C. Schrote, age 90 of rural Prospect, died early Tuesday morning, January 17, 2012 at Marion Manor, where he had been a beloved resident since May.  He was born January 25, 1921 in Marion County to the late Moses Samuel and Anna Christina (Rinnert) Schrote.

On March 14, 1943 he married the former Rachel “Jeanne” Drake and she died September 20, 2007.  He is also preceded in death by a sister, Virginia Holt.

He was a lifelong active member of the Prospect Street United Methodist Church and over the years had held every office and served on every committee within the church.  A 1939 graduate of Richwood High School, he was a veteran of the U. S. Army serving during World War II.

Ernest was a lifelong farmer who was proud to have brought in 70 harvests on the same family farm.  He served on the Board of Directors for Prospect Farmers Exchange and the Green Camp Cooperative Elevator, and served on the advisory board for Ohigro.  He was treasurer for Prospect Senior Citizens and had served as president of Jackson Community Institute and Jackson Elementary PTA.  He was 4-H Advisor for the Jackson Eastern 4-H Stars and coached little league baseball at Essex.  Ernest had recently won several blue ribbons and Best of Show awards at the Richwood Independent Fair for his long stitch embroidery and latch hook projects.

He is survived by three children, Doris (Tom) Ebbert, Delaware; Carl (Cindy) Schrote, Prospect; Norma (Bob) Eber, Marion; two grandchildren, Matthew (Melissa) Rogers, Westerville and Christy (Ben) Petersohn, Atlanta; and two great-grandchildren, Andrew and Rachel Rogers.

Funeral services will be Friday, January 20, 2012 at 10:30 AM in the Stofcheck-Ballinger Funeral Home, Richwood with Pastor Nancy Goulet officiating.  Burial will follow in Price Cemetery where military honors will be conducted by the Richwood Area Veterans.  Friends may call from 3 to 7 PM on Thursday at the funeral home.
