Donald Leroy Borland


Donald Leroy Borland, 91, of Richwood, went to be with his Lord and Savior Saturday, October 27, 2012. He was born on September 18, 1921, near Meeker, Marion County. He was the son of Lawson and Edna (Luft) Borland. On August 22, 1945, he married his wife of 67 years, Florence (Grose) Borland, and she survives in Richwood.

His work was an implement mechanic on farm machinery for many years. A World War II Veteran, he served in the U. S. Army in Infantry Fighting on the ground. He was also a Prisoner of War in Germany in 1944. Don was a faithful member of York Center United Methodist Church for 61 years. He was also a member of The Center in Richwood. He spent many hours riding his bicycle around Richwood.

Surviving are two daughters, Donna (William) Carpenter of Ostrander; Deborah (Michael) Miller; and one son, David Borland, both of Richwood. Also surviving is one granddaughter, Sara (Corey) Schwartz; three step grandsons, Carl, Jim, and John Carpenter; five step great grandchildren, Brandon, William, Cathy, Dennis and Daniel; five step great great grandchildren, Damien, Madison, Lily, Emily, and Penelope; and one great-grandchild on the way next spring. He is also survived by one sister, Helen (Richard) Kale of Richwood and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by two brothers, Millard and Carl Borland.

Funeral services will be held at York Center United Methodist Church, 28170 St. Rt. 739 in York Center at 11:00 AM on Friday, November 2, 2012. His nephew, Pastor Dan Grose will officiate, and be assisted by Pastor Michele Holloway. Music will be provided by Pat Baker. Burial will be in Claibourne Cemetery where military honors will be provided by Richwood Area Veterans. Calling hours will be Thursday, November 1, 2012 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Stofcheck-Ballinger Funeral Home in Richwood.
