Evelyn Rose "Rosie" Preston


Evelyn Rose "Rosie" Preston, age 88 of Richwood, died Tuesday, May 14, 2013 at the DeWolfe House in Marion.  She was born March 27, 1925 in Milford Center to the late Arthur Garfield and Jennie Mae (Debolt) Parthemer.

Rosie grew up in Richwood and worked at the Marion Depot helping the war effort during WW2.  She married husband Charles Mitchell Ross in 1941, who in early 50's started "Ross Bros Auto salvage" just east of Marengo. They had sons Kenneth in 1944 and Randy in 1955.  She moved back to Richwood in 1962 after Mitchell’s death in 1959 and then losing her mother Jennie Mae Grandstaff (Debolt) and step father Benjamin Grandstaff within 18 months. Rosie graduated from Marion Beauty Academy in 1962 and opened the "Pink Poodle" beauty salon in Richwood.  She was a member of the Richwood Garden Club.  She married John T Hamilton Jr. (Hamilton Plumbing and Heating) in 1964 and had a son, John Scott Hamilton in 1965.  She married Kenneth E. Preston December 2003.

She is survived by three sons, Kenneth Mitchell (Anna) Ross of Richwood; Randy Lee (Melanie) Ross of Green Camp; John Scott (Tina) Hamilton of Richwood; a brother, Raymond (Nellie) Grandstaff of Mt Vernon; two step-daughters, Judy A. (Sam) Wiford of Wisconsin; Sandra K. (Charles) Brown of Richwood and immediate family grandchildren, Charles Mitchell (Star) Ross II; Rosetta Faye Ross (deceased at birth), Ira William (Carolyn) Henderson, Jessica Renee Hamilton, John Thomas Hamilton III, Julia Autumn Hamilton, and numerous great-grandchildren and step-grandchildren.

Besides her parents, she was also preceded in death by her step-father, Benjamin Grandstaff, her first husband, Charles Mitchell Ross in 1959, her second husband, John T. Hamilton Jr. in 1997, her third husband, Kenneth E. Preston in 2013, a brother, Richard Parthemer, a sister, Vida Ross, brother-in-law, Russell Ross, step-daughter, Lynda Sue Hamilton and step-son Steven T. Hamilton.

Funeral services will be Sunday, May 19, 2013 at 5:00 PM at the Stofcheck-Ballinger Funeral Home, Richwood where friends may call from 3:00 until the time of service.  Rev. Dave M. Dipietro will officiate.  Private graveside services for Rosie and Ken will be held in Claibourne Cemetery at a later date.
