Edward Eugene McCoy


Edward Eugene McCoy, age 52 of Prospect, died unexpectedly Wednesday, July 17, 2013 at the Cleveland Clinic.  He was born August 10, 1960 in Marion to the late Homer McCoy and Margery (Hinaman) Gibson.

A 1979 graduate of North Union High School, he committed his life to public service, having been a former firefighter, where he attained the rank of captain and 2nd assistant chief of the fire Dept., which was an appointed position. He also served as a police officer and EMS technician.  He was an avid OSU and Cleveland Browns fan.  He enjoyed deer hunting and being with his family.  Always a friendly guy, Ed never met a stranger.

He is survived by his fiancé, Melissa Welch Arthur, Prospect; a daughter, Raychell McCoy, Ostrander; granddaughter, Sora-Lynn McCoy, Ostrander; future stepchildren, Shadow (Ida Hodge) Arthur, Prospect; Kada Arthur, Prospect; unborn granddaughter, Lyric Arthur; a brother, Ken McCoy, Richwood; three sisters, Debra Pearl, Richwood; Freda Johnson, Mt. Victory; Tillie Young, Williamson, West Virginia; his step-father, Bruce Gibson, Raven, Kentucky; three close friends whom he considered his brothers, Rusty Rollins and Ryan Patrick of Indiana; and Jim Corbin, Marion; numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by two brothers, Bill McCoy and James Bargar-McCoy and a sister, Louise McCoy-Howard.

Funeral services will be Monday, July 22, 2013 at 11:00 AM at the Stofcheck-Ballinger Funeral Home, Richwood. James Young will officiate.  Burial will follow in Price Cemetery.  Family and friends may call on Sunday from 2 to 5 PM at the funeral home in Richwood.
