Dennis “Mike” Hempy


Dennis “Mike” Hempy, 64 of Prospect died unexpectedly at home on December 21, 2013.   He was born May 6, 1949 in Delaware to the late Frank and Betty (Doyle) Hempy.

He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Gloria (Stiffler) Hempy.  Also surviving are his daughter, Christi Houseworth, and his son, Eric (Lindsey) Crist, all of Prospect; two brothers, Rex Hempy, Prospect; William (Shelly) Hempy, Delaware; a sister, Carolyn (John) VanEck, LaRue; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Gary and Elesa Thompson, Marysville; and many nieces and nephews.

Mike was a loving grandfather to his grandchildren, Ashley and Kaylee, Gavin and Noah, and great-grandchildren, Ethan and Airyana.

He was a sergeant in the U. S. Army, serving in Vietnam.  He was employed for twenty-four years at the Prospect Farmers Exchange.  Mike was an avid Ohio State fan and will be dearly missed by his family and his dog, Tigger.  He was preceded in death by a brother, Sky Hempy.

Funeral services will be Friday, December 27, 2013 at 11:00 AM at the Stofcheck-Ballinger Funeral Home, Prospect with Pastor Bill Snyder officiating.  Burial will follow in Prospect Cemetery where military honors will be conducted by the Marion County United Veterans Council.  Friends may call 4 to 7 PM on Thursday at the funeral home in Prospect.
